Health Magazine is serving up frozen fruit as “The Hot Dish” in its January/February issue. Food and Nutrition Editor Frances Largeman-Roth, RD showcases the nutrition, quality and convenience benefits of frozen fruit. “The chilly fruit is just as good for you as the fresh stuff,” says Largeman-Roth. Her comments are in line with the Food and Drug Administration’s recognition that frozen fruits and vegetables are nutritionally comparable to fresh.

Largeman-Roth explains the flash-freezing process where “individual pieces of fruit are frozen below -10 degrees in a couple of minutes, so there’s no loss of flavor, color, or nutrients.” She also highlights the convenience of the product explaining ...“the fruit is often packaged in resealable bags, so you can use as much as you need and pop the rest back in the freezer. Now that’s a cool convenience.”
